Back in 2019 we started with the production of voice over recordings for the Spanish YouTube channel En Pocas Palabras – Kurzgesagt, for our client Epic Mountain.
Since 2022 we are also producing voice over recordings for the new Kurzgesagt YouTube channels in French, Arabic, Brazilian Portuguese, Japanese, Korean and Hindi.
The design studio In a Nutshell – Kurzgesagt produces animated explanatory videos and focuses on the topics of physics, space exploration, biology, politics, technology, and philosophy. The animated films present the respective topics in an easily understandable and entertaining way.
Besides the main channel Kurzgesagt – In a Nutshell, where the videos are published in English, the German versions of the videos are presented on the channel Dinge Erklärt – Kurzgesagt. The Spanish YouTube channel En Pocas Palabras – Kurzgesagt has been in operation since 2019, many videos can now also be seen in Spanish. Since May 2022, videos localized in other six languages are now also available on YouTube.
When the production for the Spanish recordings was planned, it was important to reach as many Spanish speaking people as possible worldwide. Since most Spanish native speakers live in South and Central America, the choice was made for a Latin American voice talent who is native Mexican. Due to the very neutral pronunciation, voice talents from Mexico are often booked for recordings for the Latin American target market. Their pronunciation is easy to understand for most people in South and Central America and is perceived as pleasant.
For the selection of the voice actors for the six new languages French, Arabic, Brazilian Portuguese, Japanese, Korean and Hindi, an elaborate voice casting was conducted to find a suitable voice actor or voice actress for the localized versions of the videos.
Since the length of the English videos is predetermined, the foreign language voice over recordings must be time-synchronous to them. As we also coordinate the translations, we can already take this requirement into account during the pre-production. The text lengths of the finished translations are then checked again and the recording script for the time-synchronous recording is created.

For over 15 years we have been supporting the creative agency nepomedia GmbH in the localization of Adobe marketing videos. In this connection we are responsible for the complete audio production for the various target markets.
The requirements are various, some voice recordings have to be time synchronous to the English source videos, because the recordings of the target language are put over the original recording as “voice-over”. For some videos, the duration can be extended, so the voice recordings can be created individually for each target language. We produce the final mixdown of voice recording, background music and sound effects for each language.
We have already produced the voice over of the marketing videos for the target languages German, French, Italian, European Spanish, Latin Spanish, Dutch, Swedish, Brazilian Portuguese, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin Chinese for China, Mandarin Chinese for Taiwan and Thai. The voice recordings are performed by our partner studios with professional voice-over talents in the respective target countries.

For Epic Mountain we produced the voice over recordings of an educational video on behalf of the United Nations (UN) about pollution of the oceans by plastic waste and microplastics. The target languages have been Arabic, French, Hindi, Indonesian, Russian, Spanish, Swahili and Vietnamese. The length of the original video was given. In addition, the timings of the animations used in the film could not be changed. Since we were also responsible for managing the translation, we were able to take these requirements into account during the pre-production process.
