Serbian is the official language of Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Serbian is also the official language of Montenegro, Kosovo, Greece, Croatia and Hungary. Approximately 8.5 million people speak Serbian as their mother tongue, another 3.5 million as a second language.

The Serbian language belongs to the South Slavic languages within the Indo-European language family. Serbian, Bosnian and Croatian are almost identical languages, which were treated as Serbo-Croatian as a common language during the period of socialist Yugoslavia. Serbian was only recognized as an independent language after the disintegration of Yugoslavia. The greatest differences between Serbian, Bosnian and Croatian are to be found mainly in the vocabulary.

The standard Serbian language is largely based on the Štokavian dialect, the most important Southern Slavic dialect. In Serbian, both Latin and Cyrillic script are used in everyday life, with Cyrillic being the official script since 2006. With a few exceptions, the grammar is identical to that of Croatian and Bosnian. There are 7 cases: Nominative, genitive, dative, accusative, vocative, instrumental and locative. The sentence structure in Serbian follows the SVO scheme (subject-verb-object), like for example also in English, German or Russian.

We have already implemented several projects in Serbian, including TV commercials for Frosch, a brand of the household chemicals company Werner & Mertz, radio ads for the airline flydubai, telephone messages for the real estate company Eagle Hills and telephone-based patient survey systems for the pharmaceutical company ICON for which we also realized the complete production of explanatory videos for a patient survey.
