Swiss French voice over recording services for your project
French for Switzerland (Swiss French) is one of Switzerland’s official languages alongside German, Italian and Romansh. In Switzerland, French is spoken by around 2 million native speakers, mainly in the western cantons of French-speaking Switzerland (also known as Suisse Romande).
Swiss French is an umbrella term for the various dialects of the French language as well as written and spoken French in French-speaking Switzerland. In German-speaking Switzerland, the term “Welsch” is also used.
French belongs to the Romance group of the Italian branch of Indo-European languages and is therefore more closely related to Italian, Spanish, Occitan, Catalan, Portuguese, and Romanian. Like the other Romance languages, French has developed from the spoken Latin language, “Vulgar Latin”. In addition, numerous terms of Celtic origin have been preserved in French vocabulary.
The French spoken in Switzerland today generally corresponds to the standard French from France. However, there are many regional peculiarities concerning grammar, pronunciation and vocabulary. Swiss French, for example, is influenced by terms from the Patois, the formerly common everyday language, as well as by German loan words. There is another difference, among other things, in the designation of some numbers.
Voice over recordings in French for Switzerland are carried out in professional recording studios located in Switzerland or France. We work with native speakers who have a perfect command of the Swiss French language and are trained professional voice talents.
