Romansh voice over recording services for your project
Romansh, also known as Rhaeto-Romanic or Romansch, is one of four official languages in Switzerland. It is spoken by around 30,000 people as their mother tongue and an additional 30,000 as a second language – and the trend is downward.
Romansh is one of the Romance languages within the Indo-European language family. Latin was probably the starting point for the development of Romansh.
Due to the remoteness of the villages and valleys in Grisons, various so-called “idioms” of Romansh have developed. There are five Romansh idioms in Switzerland that differ in their written language: Surselvic, Sutselvic, Surmeiric, Upper Engadine and Lower Engadine.
The differences between the 5 idioms in pronunciation, vocabulary and grammar are sometimes so great that one often has to resort to the German or Italian language to communicate.
To save Switzerland’s fourth national language from extinction, the common written language “Rumantsch Grischun” was developed in 1982. However, a uniform written language could not prevail: Since 2012, different idioms have been taught and used again in schools and in the public sector.
Voice over recordings in Romansh are carried out in professional recording studios located in Switzerland. We work with native speakers who have a perfect command of the Rhaeto-Romanic language and are trained professional voice talents.
