Latvian voice over recording services for your project
Latvian is the official language of Latvia and one of the 24 official languages of the European Union. About 2 million people speak Latvian as their mother tongue.
The Latvian language belongs to the East Baltic languages within the Indo-European language family. The vocabulary contains many loan words from the languages German, Swedish and Russian; more recently it also contains anglicisms. Latvian has many similarities with the Lithuanian language, but the structure of Latvian is more modern.
Due to the Russification during Latvia’s membership in the former Soviet Union, the number of Latvian native speakers declined sharply. In 1990, only about half of the population were Latvian speakers. In 2006, around 65% of the population spoke Latvian as their mother tongue again – and the trend is rising.
The Latvian language knows many regional dialects that can be divided into 3 groups: The Livonian dialect, the Middle dialect and the Upper Latvian dialect, whereby the latter dialect group has nothing to do with the standard language of Latvian. The Latvian standard language is based on the Middle Latvian dialects.
Latvian uses the Latin alphabet and the phonological spelling. Grammar knows 6 cases: nominative, genitive, dative, accusative, vocative and locative. The sentence structure in Latvian follows the SVO scheme (subject-verb-object), as for example also in English, French or Dutch.
Voice over recordings in Latvian are carried out in professional recording studios located in Latvia. We work with native speakers who have a perfect command of the Latvian language and are trained professional voice talents.
