Estonian is the official language of Estonia and one of the 24 official languages of the European Union. About 1 million people speak Estonian as their mother tongue.

Estonian is one of the Baltic Sea Finnish languages within the Finno-Ugric language family. The vocabulary contains many loan words from High German and Middle Low German. Estonian is closely related to the Finnish language. There is also a distant relationship to Hungarian.

In the former Soviet Union, to which Estonia belonged, Russian was the official language and Estonian was banned from everyday life in the course of Russification. Since independence in 1991, Estonian has become the official language again and the number of native speakers has risen strongly again.

The Estonian language knows 8 main dialects, the northern and southern dialects, with 117 vernaculars, which developed through the isolation of the peasants through serfdom and the socage.

Estonian uses the Latin alphabet and phonological spelling. A characteristic feature is the “step change” from the primeval Finnish period, in which the root of the word changes both in writing and in pronunciation. Moreover, there are no grammatical sexes in Estonian. The grammar knows 14 cases and the sentence structure follows the SVO scheme (subject-verb-object), as for example also in English, German or Russian.

We have already implemented a number of projects in Estonian, including the production of telephone-based patient survey systems and the complete production of explanatory videos for the pharmaceutical company ICON, as well as web-based trainings courses (WBTs) for Sonic E-Learning Inc.

Voice over recordings in Estonian are carried out in professional recording studios located in Estonia. We work with native speakers who have a perfect command of the Estonian language and are trained professional voice talents.
