The Bulgarian language (Bulgarian) is the official language of Bulgaria, one of the official languages of the autonomous Orthodox monastic republic of Athos in Greece and one of the 24 official languages of the European Union.

The two main Bulgarian dialects are the Eastern Bulgarian dialects and the Western Bulgarian dialects. There are also the Rup dialects, which have parallels to Old Bulgarian as well as to the neighboring Turkish and Greek dialects.

Bulgarian is written in the Bulgarian variant of the Cyrillic alphabet, with the Bulgarian alphabet containing 30 letters. The sentence structure normally follows the “subject – predicate – object” rule.
